Early Warning Dispatch #1

“Day of Honor” in Budapest - During the night of February 11, 1945 remnants of German and Hungarian Axis forces attempted a breakout from the Castle of Buda besieged by the Soviets. Since the middle of the ‘90s, hate groups operating in Hungary - also by inviting like-minded groups from throughout Europe - tried to transform the anniversary of the historic event into a neo-Nazi power demonstration - branding it the “Day of Honor” - with the underlying aim of generating media attention. In 2011, while Hungary holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, extremist groups would have a fair chance to achieve this goal, but tensions among major organizations seem to cripple their efforts. For this reason however, there is heightened risk that one or the other group carries out provocations.
